Update 1

Update, Thursday 02 October 2008 - from Claudine's mom (translated from Afrikaans for our international visitors and friends)

Two photo's - One where Claudine is busy with physio and you can see how painful it is for her, in fact she is in tears! On the other photo she's lying in her hospital bed. The white tube in her nose is her feeding tube. She's only now learning to swallow again, and I pray that it will improve quickly so that the tube can be removed.
Next week she is being transferred to a full time rehab center, at the Muelmed Hospital (Muelmed Hospital, 577 Pretorius Street, Arcadia, Contact No: 012 440 2362, Postal address: PO Box 27140, Sunnyside, 0132, Fax: 012 341 2910 - Ed).
I'm a bit stressed about this, as once again it's a new environment for Claudine, and she seems to have a fear of strange nursing staff, mainly because they don't full understand her situation, and hurt her! They seem to think she's just a brain damaged zombie, and hurt her terribly if I am not with her. If this happens, and I get there after her treatment, Claudine is a nervous wreck! and she does not want to let me out of her sight for one minute!
She understands everything that's going on around her, and what is being said, and is reading a bit, very well, but she cant speak yet, and does not have control of her muscles. She cannot sit up, and can't lift her arms without assistance. Claudine is already moving her legs quite well, but none of her upper body limbs. She stands in the "standing/support" frame, but has to be strapped in and it hurts her very much. (This is possibly due to the internal injuries - Ed.)
I'm not sure if the fractures / damage in her body, or the muscles which are causing her the most pain. It's very difficult to confirm. If I ask her where she has the most pain, she replies "my body" and cries. Her right arm is incredibly sore, and the form at her elbow is abnormal. I have
asked the doctors several times about this, as it seems to be very painful, you can't touch the arm and she's in tears. Tonight I decided that's enough, and have demanded that she be taken for X-rays tommorow morning for both her arm and shoulder blade, so that we can see if there isn't more to this problem than originaly thought / diagnosed.
